Understanding the Risks in Hazardous Areas

Many industrial facilities handle substances that create explosive atmospheres during normal operations. Examples include: Hydrogen gas in chemical plants Ethanol vapor in pharmaceutical facilities Natural gas in oil and gas installations Acetylene in welding operations Grain dust in food processing plants Aluminum and magnesium powder in metal manufacturing When these substances mix with air within certain concentration limits, a single ignition source can trigger an explosion. Traditional HVAC equipment contains electrical components such as relays, motors, contactors, and control boards that may generate sparks during operation. Therefore, standard air conditioners cannot be safely installed in classified hazardous areas.
